Troubleshooting
Solutions to common issues when connecting to or using the Obris MCP server.
Authentication errors
OAuth popup blocked
Your browser may block the Obris authorization popup during setup. Allow popups for your AI platform's domain, then try connecting again.
Token expired or revoked
If your expert stops being able to access Obris, your OAuth token may have expired or been revoked. Disconnect and reconnect Obris from your AI platform's MCP settings, or re-authorize from the Connectors page.
"Not authenticated" error
This means the MCP client did not send a valid access token. Make sure you completed the OAuth authorization flow and that your connection is still active.
Tools not returning data
"No topics found"
Your account has no topics yet. Create a topic and save at least one item in the Obris app before using MCP tools.
"Topic not found"
The topic_id passed to get_topic_knowledge does not match any topic in your account. Call list_topics first to get valid topic IDs.
"No knowledge in this topic"
The topic exists but has no saved knowledge. Add content through the Obris dashboard, sync from Google Drive or Notion, or use the Chrome extension.
Connection issues
Wrong server URL
Each expert has its own MCP URL. Copy it from the Experts page or the expert detail view. Make sure there are no trailing slashes or extra path segments.
MCP connector not showing in AI platform
Not all AI platforms support remote MCP servers. Check the MCP Connectors guide for the list of supported platforms and setup instructions.
Expert not invoking Obris tools
AI platforms decide when to call MCP tools based on your prompt. Try mentioning Obris explicitly - for example:
Using Obris, what topics do I have?
If none of the above solutions work, the Obris service may be temporarily unavailable. Wait a few minutes and try again.
